Vietnam – China Steering Committee on Bilateral Cooperation convened 6th meeting

(VOVworld) – The 6th session of the Vietnam – China Steering Committee on Bilateral Cooperation convened in Beijing, China on Saturday. The event was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi.

The two sides discussed and reached common awareness on strengthening the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They agreed on high-level exchanges, and upholding the role of the Steering Committee on Bilateral Cooperation towards the early signing of the plan of action on implementing the strategic partnership. Both sides signed a plan to implement  the Vietnam-China Culture Agreement for the 2013-2015 period and a memorandum of understanding on lists of cooperative projects of the 5-year development plan for economic and trade cooperation for the 2012-2016 period. Both sides said they strictly follow the common awareness  of the two countries' leaders and an agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues between Vietnam and China. Both sides agreed to  comprehensively and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and join hands to safeguard peace and stability in the East Sea. Both sides agreed to observe 2013, which marks the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN-China strategic partnership, as a year to fully implement common awareness reached by ASEAN and Chinese leaders. They also pledged to broaden and deepen the ASEAN-China cooperation in economics, trade, transport links, oceanography, society and humanity, contributing more to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

During his visit to China on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Nhan visited the Vietnamese Embassy. In a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang the same day, Mr. Nhan confirmed that developing a stable, long lasting, and comprehensive cooperation with China is a consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and State. He wished that China will exert effort to boost cooperation and steer the Vietnam – China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new period of development.
