Vietnam commits to ensuring gender equality, women empowerment

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has always cooperated closely with other countries and partners for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, guaranteeing to leave no one behind, said Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan at the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which opened in the US on Monday.

Speaking at the the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment on March 11-22 under the theme “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”, Vice President Xuan emphasized the global need to help women develop their full potential to participate in economic, political, and social activities.

Women's participation in political, economic, social and cultural decision-making mechanisms should be promoted to effectively support the goal of hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and ensuring livelihoods through entrepreneurship and innovation, said Ms. Xuan.

The Vice President said: “Women have always been messengers of peace and humanity, an indispensable and decisive force in all processes of peace, security, social progress and development. Amidst temporary difficulties and challenges, women’s great potential should be strongly promoted and realized with adequate commitments and resources. In this process, Vietnam is ready to cooperate closely with other countries and international organizations to promote gender equality and empower women and girls, contributing to build a world of peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.”

She highlighted some of Vietnam's achievements in gender equality, including the publication of the National Action Program on Women, Peace, and Security in January, contributing to international efforts to promote this issue regionally and internationally.
