Vietnam confirms one more COVID death, 31 new domestic cases Sunday morning

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam recorded its 42nd coronavirus death and 31 new local infections on Sunday morning

The deceased patient is a 72-year-old woman who was admitted to Hanoi's National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on April 30 for COPD and hypertension treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.

On May 4, she tested positive for coronavirus and was put on ventilators and ECMO.

Her causes of death were pneumonia due to COVID-19 and multiple organ failure.

Meanwhile, 29 of the latest domestic cases were detected in Bac Ninh province and the other 2 in Ninh Binh province.

2 of the cases in Bac Ninh are workers from its neighbor Bac Giang's Quang Chau industrial park, which has all been shut down as a coronavirus hotspot, while 19 had close contact with previously confirmed COVID-19 patients and 8 others were detected in an already isolated area.

The 2 cases in Ninh Binh are in affected areas that have been isolated.

The new cases brought the national count to 5,119, including 2,066 reported since the new coronavirus wave began on April 27.

As of Saturday, more than 1 million people in Vietnam had been vaccinated against COVID-19, with 28,961 receiving two shots.
