Vietnam discusses UN UPR mechanism

(VOVWORLD) - The Department of Foreign Affairs under the Ministry of Public Security on Friday organized a discussion on the UN Universal Periodic Review mechanism on human rights in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province.

The event was attended by 100 delegates.The UN Universal Periodic Review is one of the most important mechanisms of the UN Human Rights Council.

The objective of the UPR is to review the fulfillment of the human rights commitments and obligations of all 193 UN member states.

Vietnam has participated in every UPR cycle over the past 18 years, since the UPR mechanism was established in 2006, and has fully implemented recommendations it accepted.

delegates discussed the mechanism’s impacts on Vietnam, the process of developing and presenting reports at the UN Human Rights Council, and the results of the dialogue on Vietnam's National Report at the UN Human Rights Council on May 7, 2024. Such discussions are meant to improve the effectiveness of Vietnam's participation in the UPR mechanism in future UPR cycles.
