Vietnam enlists international cooperation to fight crime

(VOVWORLD) - Cooperation in combating ten types of emerging crime was high on the agenda of the 39th ASEAN Chiefs of Police Conference (ASEANAPOL 39) which concluded in Hanoi on Thursday.

The conference issued a joint communiqué on cooperation directions for ASEAN police forces in 2020.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Head of the Vietnamese delegation, said: “As chair of ASEANAPOL 39, Vietnam’s police force will do its best to enhance the effectiveness of the ASEANAPOL partnership in crime prevention. We welcome the support of the police forces of other ASEAN countries and partners.”

The three-day event drew 300 delegates from ASEAN members, dialogue partners of ASEANAPOL, and observer nations. At the end of the conference, appointments were made to the position of Director of Plan and Program, Director of Police Services, and ASEANAPOL Secretary for 2020-21. The conference also granted observer status to the French National Police and Royal Canadian Police and upgraded to dialogue partner the UK National Crime Prevention Services.
