Vietnam gains more medals at SEA Games 30

(VOVWORLD) - Pencak silat artist Tran Thi Them on Thursday nabbed another gold medal for Vietnam at the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30) which is underway in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Dinh Tuan claimed a silver medal after losing to Singaporean rival Mohamad Yusli Muhammad Hazim. Vietnam pocketed two more bronzes by Pham Thi Tuoi in the women’s tanding 55kg and Nguyen Ngoc Toan in the men’s tanding under 65kg. Tennis player Ly Hoang Nam secured a place at the men’s singles final with his teammate Daniel Cao Nguyen. Vietnam also secured a tennis gold medal as players Ly Hoang Nam and Daniel Cao Nguyen. Earlier the same day, Le Nguyen Thanh Long brought home a gold medal in pencak silat’s tanding under 50kg.

A remarkable comeback draw after being 0-2 down against Thailand saw Vietnam book their SEA Games semifinal berth Thursday.

The 2-2 draw against arch rivals Thailand after conceding a bizarre first goal and missing a penalty ensured Vietnam finished on top of Group B. The hard-fought draw earned Vietnam another point and kept them at top of group B, with Indonesia second. Vietnam will play Cambodia in the semifinal at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Hanoi time) and Indonesia play group A winner Myanmar.

So far, Vietnam has gained 31 golds, 35 silvers, and 39 bronzes ranking 2nd at SEA Games 30's tally.
