According to the head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s Office in Hanoi, Vietnam has a rich heritage treasure which is being well promoted, partly thanks to the strong commitments of Vietnamese top leaders.

Mr. Baker said that Vietnam is one of the very few countries to put culture on par with economics, politics, social issues, and at the center of development.

He insisted that cultural and creative industries are not merely conduits of economic growth, but are pivotal to a holistic model of sustainable development. These industries resonate across the foundational facets of economic, environmental, cultural, and social sustainability, and need to be further explored.

Vietnam’s historical and cultural landscape is interwoven with the dynamic threads of cultural and creative industries. They not only serve as vehicles for economic prosperity, but also as guardians of tradition, fostering social cohesion, and driving sustainable practices, said Mr. Baker.

In addition, these industries are bringing Vietnam more socio-economic development opportunities, especially when Vietnam is deeply integrating into the global economy.

UNESCO is committed to supporting Vietnam in its efforts to foster culture for sustainable development, he said.
