Vietnam, Indonesia pledge stronger ties

(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday held a phone talk with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. During the talks, the Party leader informed the Indonesian President of Vietnam’s foreign policy and affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s respect for strategic partnership and the close relationship between the two countries.

Highlighting a number of major orientations to make Vietnam-Indonesia stronger and more practical, Party leader Trong proposed to strengthen mutual understanding and political trust through exchanges and meetings. He urged for stronger cooperation between the Parties, governments, parliaments, localities and peoples of the two countries, effective implementation of signed agreements, and enhancement of cooperation in national defense and security.

The Party leader urged the two sides to boost bilateral economic cooperation and work closely in regional and global issues including the East Sea issue and cooperation within ASEAN and other international forums.

President Joko Widodo agreed with Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and asked Vietnam to continue to create favorable conditions for Indonesia’s investment projects in Vietnam and strengthen cooperation on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership. President Joko Widodo said the two countries should work closely at international forums and asked for Vietnam’s support for Indonesia as ASEAN Chair in 2023
