(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam always wishes to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Hungary, which is Vietnam’s first and only comprehensive partner in Central Eastern Europe.

At a meeting with Laszlo Kover, speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, in Budapest on Tuesday, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong spoke highly of the positive development of cooperative relations between Vietnam and Hungary, especially in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, education-training, and culture.
He expected that the two countries would continue to increase visit exchanges through all channels to strengthen political trust and mutual understanding as a foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields.
He thanked Hungary for actively ratifying the European Union-Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA) and being one of the first EU countries to ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement.
He proposed that Hungary, in its role as the EU President in the second half of 2024, lobby the remaining EU member states to ratify the agreement, as well as lobbying the European Commission to soon remove its yellow card warning against Vietnamese seafood products.
Mr. Kover said Vietnam is Hungary’s most important partner in Southeast Asia. He called the relationship between the two legislatures special, and said the Hungarian National Assembly always tries to be a pillar in bilateral ties.
