(VOVworld) - On the first day of the competition, host team Vietnam ranked first in the medal tally of the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG 5) being held in the central city of Da Nang.  The Vietnamese athletes won 21 medals, including 4 gold.

Phan Thi Phuong bagged a gold medal for Vietnam

The first gold medal was won by Phan Thi Phuong in the women’s Fairway single event of Beach Woodball. In the final match, Phuong beat her teammate Nguyen Huyen Trang 3-0. The remaining gold medals were won in Kurash and Jujitsu events. Vietnam was followed by Thailand and United Arab Emirates with 3 gold medals each.
