As the result of COVID-19, people paid tribute to the Hung Kings at home instead of visting the Hung Temple in the northern province of Phu Tho as in previous years.

“We prepared a feast which includes traditional Chung and Giay rice cakes in memory of the Hung Kings. We stay at home during this year’s celebration in response to the Prime Minister’s nationwide social distancing order,” said Phu Tho resident Ta Thi Nghinh.

The Hung Kings ruled Vietnam from 2879 to 258 BC.

On Monday, Party leader and President Nguyen Phu Trong called for unity among the entire population to fight COVID-19. Former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said: “Vietnamese people, young and old alike, have strongly responded to the appeal, which serves as a guidline for people to protect themselves, the community, and the nation.”

“If we ignore the call, we are acting irresponsibly towards ourselves and those who are in the fronline to fight COVID-19,” she added.
