Vietnam praised for contributions to FAO

(VOVworld) - Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) José Graziano da Silva has hailed Vietnam’s participation and contributions of the FAO while receiving Permanent Representative of Vietnam to FAO Ambassador Cao Chinh Thien, who came to present his credentials last Friday. He noted that Vietnam’s achievements in agriculture and ensuring food security are impressive. Vietnam boasts a strong contingent of experts in rice cultivation and aquaculture, he said, suggesting Vietnam increase its exchange of experience in these fields with African nations within the South-South cooperation - a model designed for developing countries in the global South.

Ambassador Thien affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s policy of poverty reduction and agricultural and rural development. He said Vietnam has answered challenges like climate change, the global economic crisis, and food price fluctuations with targeted programs. Thien hailed FAO’s past cooperation with and assistance to Vietnam, noting that Vietnam backs FAO in the global fight against poverty. Both sides agreed that FAO’s reform of technical cooperation methods will help increase the efficiency of its cooperation with partners like Vietnam.
