Vietnam proposes measures to increase ASEAN-EU cooperation

(VOVWORLD) -Foreign Ministers of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered in Brussels, Belgium, Monday to discuss enhancing their cooperation across many fields. 

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung attended the Conference on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

The Vietnamese delegation actively contributed to the discussions and to the process of developing the Joint Statement of the Conference. On behalf of ASEAN, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung proposed measures to promote effective cooperation between the EU and ASEAN on climate change, counter-terrorism, transnational crime, network security, border management, illegal fishing prevention, and sustainable development.

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Dung met one-on-one with the President of the Belgian House of Representatives, representatives of Belgium, Romania, Greece, and Hungary, and senior officials of the EU Council and the European Commission to promote ratification of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (IPS).
