Vietnam ranks 2nd in SEA Games Day 1

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese athletes had a successful day of competition on Sunday at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines with the thrilling win 2-1 by Vietnamese men’s U22 team over Indonesia and Nguyen Thi Cam Nhi bagging a gold medal in martial arts’ arnis event later on the day.

After the first day of SEA Games, Vietnam brought home 10 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals, ranking 2nd in the medal tally, just behind the Philippines  with 21 gold, 11 silver, and 5 bronze medals.

Vietnam aims to bring home at least 65 gold medals, particularly gaining excellent achievements in such Olympic sports as track and field, swimming, artistic gymnastics, fencing and wrestling. The Vietnamese delegation has 856 members, with nearly 600 athletes, competing in more than 40 sports.

SEA Games 30 officially kicked off on Sunday and is set to wrap up on December 12, with athletes from 11 Southeast Asian nations competing.
