Vietnam reaffirms support for peace deal in Colombia

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council said on Tuesday that it backs COVID-19 prevention measures and peace deal implementation in Colombia.

At a meeting to review the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UN, voiced his support for Colombia’s constitutional reform efforts. He expressed concern over violence and killing and urged compliance with the UN Secretary-General’s call for a global ceasefire and protection of civilians, particularly women and children, in conflict zones.

The Ambassador noted progress in reintegrating of former combatants through socio-economic development programs and projects. Mr. Quy proposed that the National Reintegration Council drive joint efforts of the UN and other international organizations to devise financial assistance mechanisms and initiatives to help former combatants.
