(VOVWORLD) - Spectacular fireworks lit up the sky of major cities across Vietnam as millions welcomed the Year of the Rat.

Despite a heavy deluge that struck Hanoi on Friday night, local crowds gathered at downtown Hoan Kiem lake to watch the spectacles and exchange New Year greetings.
“This is the first time I have enjoyed the Lunar New Year at Hoan Kiem lake. May the New Year bring us good health, stable incomes, and happiness,” a reveler said.
“I hope I will pass the college entrance exam this year,” another elaborated.
HCM city’s downtown was packed by people on New Year’s Eve.
“I wish the entire Vietnamese people a new year of peace, luck, success and prosperity. May HCM city enjoy stronger growth and development,” said Trinh Dong Tam, a local resident.
In the early hours of 2020, many people visited pagodas and temples to pray for good fortune in the new year.
