Vietnam seeks sustainable urban development

(VOVworld) – The future of Vietnam’s cities was the main topic of a seminar held by the Vietnam Urban Forum Tuesday in Hanoi. Participants discussed ecological urban development in response to climate change and localities’ urban development and management capacity. Their discussion also included fair competition and resources for upgrading cities. Those issues are closely associated with the goals set in Vietnam’s City Development Strategy.

As of September, Vietnam had 760 cities. The national urbanization rate is 31% and is predicted to reach 45% in the next 10 years. Urban areas, which contribute to 70-75% of GDP, will drive economic development and changes in the labor structure at both local and national level.
