(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said that Vietnam identifies San Francisco, where the second largest number of Vietnamese people are living, is a key area to promote relations between localities of Vietnam and the US. It is also the first place where Vietnam located its Consulate General in the US.

At a meeting with Mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, within the framework of his visit to the US on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said Vietnam wants to promote relations between San Francisco and localities in general and with Ho Chi Minh City in particular in areas where San Francisco has strengths such as economy, trade, science, technology, digital transformation, climate change response, and disaster recovery.
Mr. Chinh suggested that the two sides strengthen the exchange of delegations at all levels, promote people-to-people exchanges, cooperate in human resource training, improve healthcare capacity, and encourage enterprises of both sides to cooperate in investment and business. He thanked and suggested the city continue to create favorable conditions for the community of about 50,000 Vietnamese people here.
For his part, Mayor Breed praised Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements and pandemic prevention and reopening efforts and said she wants to learn about Vietnam's measures to mobilize people to actively participate in the pandemic fight, especially in the vaccination drive. She informed about the city's strengths such as high-tech industries, tourism, environmental protection, the world's leading healthcare capacity, and public transport.
