(VOVoworld) - Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Nguyen Thanh Son, has voiced Vietnam’s support for the initiative of setting up an UNESCO Emergency Fund and other measures to overcome its current difficult period. Son delivered the statement at the 189th session of the UNESCO Executive Board on Thursday in Paris. Son said cost cutting is necessary in the current economic climate, providing chance for UNESCO boost more in-depth reforms to improve its operation efficiency and global role. The Deputy Foreign Minister also reiterated Vietnam’s supports for UNESCO strengthened relationship with the National Commissions for UNESCO of member countries. Son said as a member of UNESCO Executive Board, Vietnam will stand side by side with the organization for a peaceful and better world: In the context of global uncertainties, Vietnam hopes UNESCO will overcome its current financial difficulties. In addition to UNESCO own efforts, Vietnam suggests member countries work harder to contribute actively to the budget as well as the implementation of programs and activities of the organization”.
