Vietnam-Australia trade up 50%

(VOVWORLD) - Despite COVID-19, two-way trade between Vietnam and Australia neared 9.1 billion USD in the first nine months of 2021, a year-on-year surge of 50%, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Notably, agricultural exports expanded by 32%. Australian firms have reduced rice imports from other countries but continue to purchase a large volume of its grain from Vietnam.

Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia Nguyen Phu Hoa said Vietnamese brands have been gained trust in Australia following a program meant to build brands of Vietnamese goods and continued efforts made by businesses over the past few years.

Vietnam and Australia recently announced an Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy, aiming at bringing bilateral trade to 15 billion USD and opening up chances for Vietnamese exporters to enter the Australian market in the near future.
