Vietnamese Film Days opens in US

(VOVWORLD) - The film “Don’t Cry, Butterfly”, directed by Duong Dieu Linh, played to a distinguished audience at the Motion Picture Association headquarters in Washington D.C on Wednesday, marking the opening of Vietnamese Film Days in the US.

Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Development Association, said Vietnam supports its film industry with policies like the new Cinema Law 2023. She highlighted Vietnam’s growing cinematic presence, pointing to “Don’t Cry, Butterfly” garnering accolades at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival. Lan said she hopes more Vietnamese films will come to US theaters. 

In addition to roundtable discussions and seminars on the filmmaking environment, policies, and cooperation opportunities, were delighted to see the strong relationship between Vietnamese and American cinema,” said Lan.

“Witnessing the excitement, empathy, and interest of American audiences during the screening of ‘Dont Cry, Butterfly’ made me proud that a Vietnamese film was so well-received and appreciated. I believe this is a promising sign of new opportunities—especially for Vietnamese films to gain recognition and a certain standing in the US, the worlds film capital,” she added.

A seminar on policies to attract foreign film producers to Vietnam was attended by Paramount, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Disney, and other major US studios.
