Vietnam’s digital trade to hit 41 billion USD by 2020

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has been earning significant revenue from digital trade, which could be still higher in the future, according to a workshop in Hanoi on Tuesday.

A report on digital trade opportunities released by AlphaBeta shows the economic value of digital trade for the Vietnamese economy is estimated to be worth 3.5 billion USD in 2017 but this could grow to 41 billion USD by 2030. Moreover, digital exports brought in 4.1 billion USD, which is thought to increase to 28 billion USD by of 2030, the report said. Economists suggested Vietnam work to ease restrictions relating to foreign investment, competition policies, and cross-border data flow. A representative from AlphaBeta, a strategy and economic consulting firm serving clients across Australia and Asia, said the Vietnamese Government and policy makers should consider the importance of digital trade in building the economy.
