Vietnam’s voice is acknowledged as equal to those of other countries, thanks to its impressive socio-economic achievements which have put it at the forefront of developing countries. Although Vietnam has been a United Nations member for only 36 years, it has made remarkable contributions to consolidating and expanding the role of the world’s largest international organization. As one of 8 pilot countries running the UN’s “Delivering as One” initiative, Vietnam has obtained the most impressive results in fulfilling the UN Millennium Development Goals. Vietnam successfully exercised its non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council on the 2008-2009 term while effectively partnering with members of the Non-Aligned Movement and other developing countries to ensure basic principles of the UN Charter.

Vietnam’s work with the UN was cited as a model of cooperation for the development of socio-economy, culture, and humanism. The article said Vietnam’s experience during its 36-year journey makes it a valuable model for many other countries to follow.
