Mr. Chinh highlighted the progress in Vietnam-US relations over the years, with economic-trade-investment cooperation being a key pillar. He said American businesses’ desire to expand investment in Vietnam shows the US’s confidence in the country. Two-way trade grew nearly 240 fold to more than 110 billion USD in 2021. The US is currently the largest export market for Vietnam, while Vietnam is the ninth largest trade partner of the US.

PM Chinh said that Vietnam is focusing on its socio-economic recovery and development program worth 15 billion USD, reopening the economy, improving the health care sector, and ensuring social welfare.

“As one of the countries hardest hit by climate change, Vietnam calls for international unity, equality and justice in the fight against climate change," he said.
"We look forward to your assistance, especially in building institutions which suit both Vietnam’s political system and global development trend. We also need your assistance in green financial resources, green technology, green human resources, and green governance.”

US firms praised Vietnam’s efforts to implement its commitments at COP26 with economic restructuring programs suitable to the global trend of green, circular and digital economic development, along with efforts to promote transformation into green and clean energy, expand infrastructure systems, and strengthen education-training.

PM Chinh called on businesses from both nations to strengthen their partnerships to promote the practical and effective relationship between the two countries.  “With the motto of harmonious interests and shared risks, sincere sentiments and trust, we will surely succeed,” he said.

The summit was jointly held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the America Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham) and the US Chamber of Commerce to discuss bilateral economic ties, and sketch out new orientations for post-pandemic economic recovery.
