The call was made in light of the DR of Congo holding four simultaneous elections on Wednesday to elect the President, the National Assembly, provincial delegates, and local councilors.

President Felix Tshisekedi, aged 60, is running in the election alongside 18 opposition candidates. However, the December 20 vote did not proceed smoothly. Election authorities encountered challenges in transporting voting materials to polling stations on time, resulting in some stations being unable to open.

As a response, the National Election Commission (CENI) was required to extend voting time by one day in locations where it could not be conducted. At present, all opposition parties are criticizing the election and warning of possible fraud, leading to a tense situation in the DR of Congo.
