Julie Bataille, spokeswoman for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, said the decision was made due to people’s high demands. The government also took into consideration the fact that consumers may be enrolling from multiple time zones. The White House hopes the one-day delay can ensure a smooth registration process.

The website Healthcare.gov saw more than 1.2 million visitors over the weekend. By Monday evening the figure increased by an additional 1 million people. About 200,000 phone calls were made healthcare registrants.

The increase in those signed up for Obamacare is expected to raise the prestige of Obama’s law on healthcare reforms, and the President’s own favorability. Over the weekend, President Obama also signed up for the service as a way of supporting the program offering high quality medical insurance at low price.
