Speaking on the sidelines of the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Tsavdaridis said Vietnam has always paid attention to human rights and the protection of those rights – the right to live in peace, welfare rights, and the right to a continuous improvement of living standard – which can be clearly seen in Vietnam’s success in eliminating extreme poverty. This is Vietnam’s biggest human rights achievement so far, he said.
Tsavdaridis also highlighted Vietnam’s improved international rankings, despite a host of challenges, in national construction and development, and affirmed his support for the Vietnamese people’s right to choose their path of development and progress.
Last Friday the Human Rights Council adopted the Universal Periodic Review’s fourth cycle review of protection and promotion of human rights in Vietnam.
