At Tuesday’s meeting marking the 70th Traditional Day of Vietnamese Young Volunteers, Mr. Phuc said young volunteers have defied all hardships and are ready to sacrifice for their Motherland and the people.

“Young volunteers have left their mark on all victories in our struggles to defend the nation. The sacrifice of young volunteers in Co Noi, Dong Loc, Truong Bon, and Luu Xa has been the pride of generations of Vietnamese youths,” said PM Phuc.

In 1950, President Ho Chi Minh established a young volunteer force. During the resistance wars against the French and American invaders, the young volunteers were involved in opening roads, transporting weapons and food to the battlefields, removing unexploded bombs, digging tunnels, and building field hospitals. More than 6,000 laid down their lives and 18,000 and their children were exposed to Agent Orange/dioxin.
