Learning from Uncle Ho’s simplest things

(VOVworld) - Captain Bui Huu Tho is one of the 150 military officers and units, who were honored last week for their outstanding involvement in the movement to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example. Tho is working at Factory Z153 under the General Department of Engineering of the Defense Ministry.

34-year-old Bui Huu Tho was moved and surprised to be among the honorees because he always does what he can to accomplish his task without expecting compliments. Tho is in charge of the electricity division of the tank and armored vehicle workshop. Tho said he has liked this work since he was a little boy: “My father also did electrical repairs in tanks and armored vehicles. I learned from his passion since I was little by watching him and his colleagues fix the tanks. After joining the army, I learned to be an electrician and now I’m working in the same factory where my father used to work.”

Tho’s daily work is to solve electrical problems in the tanks sent to the factory. He and his colleagues sometimes spend half a day under a tank finding out what the problem is and fixing it. Tho also tries day and night to find ways to replace specialized parts with what he can find in the workshop. He said: “I learned the theory in school and experience from our predecessors. As technology keeps advancing, we must continue to study and innovate.”

With only 7 years in this work, Tho has already been hailed 5 times for excelling in the emulation movement at the grassroots level and has been appointed head of the electricity division. Colonel Le Xuan Khanh, Director of Factory Z153 said: “Tho’s innovations and creations have helped reduce work hours and improve effectiveness. Since we are short of spare parts because of their high cost, Tho has improvised replacements by taking advantage of the materials available in Vietnam.”

Tho’s hard work and know-how have won him his colleagues’ respect. Phan Quoc Khanh is a colleague: “Tho is like a brother who is always willing to help us. He is hard working and very careful at work. We’ve learned a lot from him.”

As a soldier and an engineer, Tho drives himself to do his best in life and work. He said: “Although many people say that living and working according to President Ho Chi Minh’s example is difficult, I don’t think so. I think that fulfilling our everyday tasks, even in the simplest things, is one way to follow his example.”
