Pham Hong Thom graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and studied for his Master’s degree at Pukyong National University in Busan, South Korea. As a student, Thom frequently published his research in prestigious science magazines like Scientificdirect.com–USA and IEEE Transactions on Reliability. He graduated with perfect marks—100/100.

To apply what he had learned, Thom established his own company, Tan Phuoc Dong Mechanics and Automation, specialized in machines for agriculture, forestry and fishery. Thom’s products cost less than imported machinery. Nguyen Duc Lam, Head of the Que Lam, company in Hanoi, regularly buys products from Thom’s company.

“Thom’s machines are high-quality, high-capacity, and very easy to use. The machines, automatic or semi-automatic, are very suitable for farming,” said Lam. 

Pham Hong Thom has leveraged his advanced engineering knowledge to create very useful machines. He said, “Before any invention, I do lots of research on the needs of customers. Then I start designing. Any product must undergo strict testing before being introduced to the market”.

Of Thom’s inventions, his automatic sawing machine is the most popular. It has been exported to Laos, Cambodia, and several African countries.

In Tien Giang province, Pham Hong Thom is a role model as an entrepreneur. Engineer Nguyen Van An, Vice Chairman of the Tien Giang Union of Science and Technology Associations, said, “Thom is very creative and his products are widely used. He has created, and continues to create, machines that boost agricultural productivity and improve people’s daily lives”.
