Indonesia compensates coach McMenemy $300,000 for breaking contract

(VOVWORLD) -Indonesia breaks the contract with head coach Simon McMenemy before it expires, which costs them nearly $300,000 of compensation.

McMenemy signed a contract to lead Team Indonesia in 2 year, starting from December 20, 2018. Because the deal will expire in December 2020, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has to pay compensation to McMemeny if they dismiss him.

The Scottish coach receives a salary of $280,000 per year and PSSI must pay him the salary for the remaining  months, equivalent to $300,000 million.

“It is a risk of contractual conditions, a binding that we cannot replace, we either choose achievements or choose money," PSSI Director General Muhammad Iriawan told reporters.

McMenemy will still work with Indonesia in the 2022 World Cup Qualifier with his last match against Malaysia on November 19, 2019.
In the first four matches, Indonesia did not gain even one point. It was defeated to all four rivals: Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, and  Vietnam and was ranked last in Group G.

Fans were quick to demand the Football Federation authority to promptly replace coach Simon McMenemy.
The two most potential candidates are Luis Milla, who trained young  teams at a Barcelona club and Shin Tae-yong, who took the helm of the South Korean national team at the 2018 World Cup finals.
