Van Quyet dismissed from Vietnam squad before World Cup qualifier against Thailand

(VOVWORLD) - Coach Park Hang-seo and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have announced the official 27-man list for the World Cup qualifying match against Thailand next month, which includes 7 Hanoi FC players and 4 Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) players.

Van Quyet does not seem to fit into coach Park’s strategy.

But he excludes Hanoi FC skipper Van Quyet, a surprise for Vietnamese fans. Coach Pham Minh Duc speculates that Van Quyet does not fit into Park’s strategy.

“He is not a forward and often plays on the wing side so he’s not Park’s preferred choice. Park has been working with Quyet long enough to understand the matter”, said Duc.

“Quyet played for the national team at the AFF Cup 2018 and Park knew well that he is best suited to Hanoi FC. Park needs a young, strong, and fast winger who can support striker Anh Duc. That’s why there is no room for Quyet this time,” Duc explained.

Quyet, the Hanoi FC captain, has scored 10 goals for his club in the V-League, the National Cup, and the AFC Cup so far in this season. He played a key role in Hanoi FC’s advancement to the AFC Cup 2019 inter-zonal semis. Quyet scores an average 0.5 goals/match, more than any of the 4 strikers Cong Phuong, Ha Minh Tuan, Nguyen Anh Duc and Nguyen Tien Linh who have been named to the squad for match against Thailand on September 5.

Besides Van Quyet, coach Park Hang-seo also dismissed strong players like Tran Nguyen Manh, Ho Tuan Tai, Do Van Thuan and Ho Khac Ngoc.
