2013 RadioAsia Conference opens

(VOVworld) – The 2013 RadioAsia Conference opened in Hanoi on Monday with the participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Javad Mottaghi, Secretary General of the Asia – Pacific Broadcasting Union, and Martin Hadlow, Secretary General of the Asian Media Information and Communication Center.

This is the first time Radio the Voice of Vietnam has coordinated with ABU to host the only international radio event of its kind in the region. Themed “Radio and Social Media: Where to Next”, RadioAsia 2013 discussed current pressing issues in the context of broadcasting organizations facing several challenges from the rapid development of information technology and a booming social media. Radio has been experiencing remarkable changes to adapt to these new trends.

After the opening ceremony, the first sessions of the conference were Radio on the Move and a New Era Dawns. During the 3-day event, domestic and foreign broadcasting managers and experts will continue to look at issues relating to the new era for radio; Killer Apps for Radio; Interacting with the 'Connected' Audience; Storytelling and the “On-air” Imagination; Folklore in Vietnamese Radio; and Radio: “The Private Realm”, Cute Producer - Creative Listener”.

On the threshold of the event, various workshops were organized highlighting social media, the development of radio programs, and reports on the trial of the world most advanced digital radio broadcasting technologies. At these workshops, speakers underscored the importance of social media for traditional radio broadcasting.

Also on Monday, a digital radio broadcasting workshop entitled “the DAB+ Technology Showcase: DAB+ Technology Workshop and Demonstration”, was held. At the event, VOV put forward an optimal technology solution and digitized roadmap for Vietnam’s broadcasting industry to regional and global radio broadcasters. The workshop will greatly contribute to studies outlining a development roadmap for VOV’s digital radio broadcasting until 2020.
