Huynh Dam, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, told VOV: "Since national reunification and 3 times amending the Constitution, this revision has attracted the most interest and recommendations from people from all strata. Representatives of all Vietnamese ethnic groups inside and outside the country, and various religious dignitaries have all contributed ideas to the draft Constitution. It illustrates the people’s right to a voice in the areas of Constitutional revision, national defense, and helping build a socialist state governed by the law of the people, by the people and for the people."
Mr. Dam said that the people have commented on all areas, especially in clarifying the role of Vietnam’s political system in the new period. They suggested that the Constitution should firmly confirm the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Land issues have also been widely discussed. There have been different ideas but in general there is agreement on constitutionalizing the public ownership of land. It will require specific regulations and mechanisms to protect the legitimate rights and interests of land users.
