(VOVworld)- A seminar on providing consultancy for Asia-Pacific civil organizations on agriculture and food security took place in Hanoi Saturday.

Challenges facing food security in Asia-Pacific discussed at the seminar

Delegates discussed a number of issues including challenges facing food security and nutrition in the Asia-Pacific region, investment trends, and the financialization of agricultural markets. They also touched upon the role of farmers in small-scale production, models and actions for sustainable agriculture development as well as the sustainable management of agro-forestry and marine resources. Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang said: "This seminar prioritizes problems affecting food security and agriculture development in the region. Delegates will propose recommendations to the Food and Agriculture Organization and regional policy makers and ask for more efforts to realize the Millennium Development Goal of halving the poverty rate by 2015."
