Bauxite-aluminum projects in the Central Highland produce socio-economic benefits

(VOV) - Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, Vinacomin, on Thursday held a press conference on the results of 2 bauxite-aluminum projects in the Central Highland provinces of Lam Dong and Dac Nong.

Doctor Nguyen Tien Chinh, Head of the Department of Science and Technology of Vinacomin, said that the Government had allowed the group to invest for a trial period in the projects. The Lam Dong bauxite aluminum project produced up to 650,000 tons of alumin per year in the first phase. Up to this April, the project managed to produce 265,000 tons of bauxite ore. In the first phase, the Nhan Co-Dac Nong alumin project has a production capacity of up to 650,000 tons of alumin per year, and is expected to be in successful production by the middle of next year. Mr. Nguyen Tien Chinh said the group’s latest review confirms socio-economic benefits and capital returns in the next 12 to 13 years: "Vinacomin’s economic effectiveness is accessed for 30 years, accounting for tax policies. Financial and business effectiveness have been clearly shown".

Regarding the technology, Nguyen Tien Chinh said that Vinacomin uses the same modern and environment friendly production techniques employed by countries, who have great expertise and experience in bauxite exploitation.
