Businesses adapt to climate change

(VOVworld) – A business forum in Hanoi on Friday set out the challenges and opportunities brought by green growth and discussed ways to respond to climate change. Restructuring the economy toward green growth brings negative impacts for the steel, cement, and mining industries, but facilitates the production of renewable energy appliances.

Pham Hoang Mai, Head of the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, said: "We will propose to the Prime Minister offering preferential policies in terms of tax and benefits for businesses who have the capital, to support scientific projects and establish funds. The World Bank will build a center for green and environmentally-friendly technologies in Vietnam and partially sponsor technology transfer. The Government’s aid, channeled through different funds, will be used to pilot projects in energy efficiency and green growth."

The forum was co-organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
