“Connecting the East Sea” program to be launched

(VOVworld) – A program called “Connecting the East Sea” will be launched for 1 month from September 15th to raise 500,000 USD to equip fishermen with telecommunications devices. The program is organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Radio Voice of Vietnam, and Vietnam Television. In a press conference on Friday in Hanoi, organizers said this charitable program is planned to last for the long-term.

Doan Van Thai, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said: "The program will call for donations from people inside and outside Vietnam to buy communications equipment to quickly inform fishermen about natural disasters. It will also encourage fishermen to make a living from the sea in order to develop the local economy and defend Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty. There are 3 ways to donate including sending text messages, worth 10,000 VND each, to the national humanitarian portal 1400, donating communications equipment, and transferring money to the Society’s bank account."
The Vietnam Red Cross Society has donated 5,000 USD to the “Connecting the East Sea” program.
