Creating equal opportunities for poor, ethnic children
(VOV) – Action Month for Children 2013 was launched on Monday in Hanoi.
Nguyen Hai Huu, Director of the Child Protection and Care Department under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, said that under the theme “Creating equal development opportunities for poor and ethnic minority children”, Action Month aims to raise social awareness so that the protection, care and education of the children, especially poor and ethnic minority children, will be more effective: "There are now around 3 million poor children, according to Vietnam’s poverty criteria. This is attributable to inequality in access to social security and social welfare. There is a big gap in nutrition, health care, access to education and entertainment among the Kinh majority children and ethnic minority children. This year’s Action Month aims to mobilize social resources to support these children".
This is the 20th consecutive year in which the Action Month for Children has been launched nationwide.
