The study was conducted on 248 deputies (or 50 percent) and 136 provincial People’s Council deputies in Hanoi, Binh Phuoc province and Can Tho city.

Head of the study group, Professor, Doctor Pham Quang Minh from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities said female deputies in the 2016-2021 term have made an equal contribution to male deputies and in more dominant roles in some areas. He said voters can trust and vote for female deputies who represent 50.2% of Vietnam’s population.

The study recommends creating favorable conditions for elected representatives to proactively engage with voters through all channels, especially social networking channels. In addition, it suggests that female and male deputies participate in all fields by introducing gender quotas in the National Assembly and People’s Councils committees.

The study’s results were discussed at a virtual discussion on Wednesday, jointly convened by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam, the Deputies’ Affairs Section of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
