Addressing the ceremony, top leader To Lam emphasized that in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, Hanoi always has a particularly important role and position with brilliant milestones full of honor and pride.

“From a city heavily ravaged by war and with a relatively small area and population, backward infrastructure and economy, Hanoi today has become a political-administrative center, major hub of culture, science, education, economics, and international integration, and one of the 17 largest cities in the world. The capital Hanoi is secure, safe, and full of vitality, with great appeal to domestic and foreign tourists and international investors."

"Hanoi currently has friendly and cooperative relations with more than 100 cities and capitals of countries, economic and trade relations with nearly 200 countries and territories. Hanoi participates in and assumes important roles at many major international forums, contributing to enhancing the role, position, and prestige of the capital and the country globally.”

General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that after 40 years of reform, Vietnam is facing a historic opportunity to advance into a new era, an era of rise. Therefore, he urged for Hanoi’s greater efforts. “Maximize all solutions, strongly unleash resources to build Hanoi truly worthy of being the national political and administrative center, the heart of the whole country. It should become smart, modern, green, clean, beautiful urban area, with pervasive power to boost the Red River Delta, the Northern key economic region, and the whole country to develop together."

"Develop a civilized, modern Hanoi into a globally connected city, deeply integrated, highly competitive in the region and the world,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, delegations of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and laid wreaths at his mausoleum on the 70th anniversary of the capital city’s Liberation Day.
