Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son praised media organizations for helping overseas Vietnamese preserve their language and promoting Vietnam’s image to the world community. He said that media agencies have contributed to enhancing the national cultural identity and language among the Vietnamese community abroad. For the occasion, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs asked Vietnamese radio and television stations to dedicate more of their airtime to the teaching of Vietnamese and use their entertainment programs to help their audiences learn more about Vietnam in all of its aspects. Nguyen Thanh Hang, a member of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in France, says: “Vietnamese people in France who are learning Vietnamese hope to receive information in standard Vietnamese. There should be a set of books covering all aspects of life in Vietnam including its history, culture, and language. The books should be easy to understand with simple sentences and vocabulary.”

Seminar participants also discussed ways to preserve the Vietnamese culture and language abroad and carry out a curriculum for the teaching and learning of Vietnamese abroad.
