International donors pledge 7.4 billion USD in ODA for Vietnam

International donors have pledged nearly 7.4 billion USD in official development assistance to Vietnam in 2012. The commitments were made at the Consultative Group Meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday. At the closing ceremony, Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh said that this is a very positive result amid recent debt crisis in developed countries around the world, The commitments reflect donors’ support for Vietnam’s efforts to accelerate economic restructuring and poverty reduction. Vinh said that Vietnam vows to speed up its ODA disbursement. “Vietnam will namange and use effectively the welcome aids to achieve its socio-economic goals and restructure and reform its economy. The Vietnamese government is determined to speed up its economic restructure and reform its growth model next year. We hope that donors will continue their support for Vietnam to overcome current challenges,” he said.
In the 2012 fiscal year, WB will provide Vietnam with 2 billion USD, Japan 1.9 billion USD, and ABD, 1.4 billion USD. Japanese ambassador to Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki said that Japan’s ODA to Vietnam will increase even more once Japan’s economy is thriving again.
