National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control marked in Bac Ninh
(VOVworld)- On Sunday, the Ministry of Health and the Youth Union launched a meeting in Bac Ninh province in response to National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and World AIDS Day (December 1).
The Ministry of Health called for immediate actions to create a community strengthen to eliminate HIV/AIDS epidemic. Nguyen Hoang Long is Director of the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health:“Aid resources for Vietnam’s efforts to cope with HIV/AIDS are becoming less. Despite the mobilization of domestic financial resources, there remains a big gap. Only 30% of the recipients of ARV treatment have health insurance cards. We hope the figure of patients with health insurance cards will increase”.
There are more than 36.9 million HIV carriers in the world. Nearly 40 million people died of AIDS. Since 1990, Vietnam has had 230,000 HIV carriers. Around 85,000 AIDS patients died.
