(VOVworld) - The Red Cross Organization of Da Nang city has held a conference to honor kind hearted people to mark the 150th anniversary of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Last year, the organization mobilized 1,000 foreign and Vietnamese organizations and individuals to contribute 400,000 USD helping nearly 4,000 disadvantaged people. Nguyen Thuan, Vice President of Da Nang’s Red Cross, says: “Our campaign has gained considerable results by attracting the participation of all local enterprises. Many social beneficiaries and disadvantaged people have been assisted. We also give enterprises, organizations and individuals a list of people in need so they know who they can help”.
For the occasion, Can Tho City’s Red Cross held a meeting with its most outstanding volunteers. Local leaders praised local organizations and individuals for their participation in humanitarian activities including blood donations and assistance to disadvantaged and vulnerable people and orphans. 83 year-old doctor Le Thi Ty has assisted the Huong Duong Orphans Center for 17 years and Can Tho Hospital’s Humanitarian Group for 21 years.She says: “I just want to do something to help others, because it makes me happy. I just hope to help them to find a job and become better people”.
