(VOVworld) – The Committee for the Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) held a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday to announce the city's 7th Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for the 2013-2018 term. The two-day Congress will open on September 11th, attracting more than 700 delegates, including 500 outstanding priests and parishioners from 24 districts across the city. The Congress will review the results of patriotic movement among the Catholics and its operations in the previous term and work out plans for the next term. Priest Nguyen Cong Danh is CSVC President: “In past years, the Committee implemented guidelines of the Party and the State and the Vietnam Catholic Bishop Council by launching a people’s solidarity movement to develop the cultural life in residential areas and to serve the happiness of our fellow-citizens. All other activities fall in line with these guidelines and have raised nearly 13,000 USD. We will further speed up the movement in the coming period accordance with the guidelines.”

The Congress will continue to launch patriotic movements among Catholics, contributing to national construction and defense. It will nominate the city’s delegation to attend the 6th National Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for the 2013-2018 term.
