Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo, who sponsored the resolution, told VOV correspondents in Washington about the resolution’s impacts on the US and claimants in the East Sea: “By passing this resolution, it sends a clear message that we are definitely supporting it to be solved. It will make our relations much easier in the future. The resolution reaffirms our position of our rebalance. I think it will certainly step up activities for our economic and security affairs in the region. The dispute has been out there for some years now and could escalate and become very harmful. So I think if we can settle it, it comes to some agreements that will enhance the security in the region, the economic ties we have, and of course the TPP negotiations. To me, it may be the first resolution but a very important resolution for our region.”

According to Bordallo, the US Congress considers the settlement of disputes in the East Sea, which involve many countries, vital for the US policy of shifting to the Asia-Pacific region.
