(VOVworld) – Vietnam will develop its agriculture sustainably. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh made the remark in an interview granted to VOV to mark the 34th World Food Day on October 16th.

Themed “Family farming: feeding the world, caring for the earth”, this year’s event highlights the importance of family farming and small household economy in reducing poverty, ensuring food and nutrition security, managing natural resources, and protecting the environment, especially in rural areas.

Doanh said: “Vietnam has made a great effort to ensure food security. This was largely contributed by farmers who have been creative in production to make impressive agricultural achievements and by international support. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has provided Vietnam with farming techniques towards efficient and sustainable production. To make the agricultural restructuring project a success, we should tap international assistance to achieve the targets set in the plan to restructure the agricultural sector to add value and achieve sustainable growth.”
