Vietnam attends COP 19

(VOVworld) – Vietnamese delegates are attending the 19th Conference of the Party (COP 19) in Warsaw, Poland, which is negotiating a new global agreement with financial and technical solutions on climate change adaptation.

In a press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said its Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha will lead the Vietnamese delegation.

COP 19 expects a strong commitment by developed countries to reducing green house emissions to limit the rise of global temperatures to 2DC in this century.

Nguyen Van Tue, Director of the Department of Hydro-Meteorology and Climate Change, told reporters about Vietnam’ activities under COP 19: "Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding on environmental cooperation with Japan’s Ministry of Environment. On the sidelines of COP 19, Vietnam and Sweden will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation to implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Vietnam’s delegates will attend a workshop on a national green house gas inventory and Japan’s assistance in this field and a discussion of technology transfer held by Indonesia."

Since its signing in 1994, Vietnam has always honored the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

COP 19 will continue until next Friday.
