Vietnam has overtaken Brazil to become the largest coffee exporter in the world, according to the International Coffee Organization.
Vietnam shipped around 14 million buskets abroad in the first six months of this year, 13 percent more than Brazil, according to the ICO. Previously, Vietnam topped only the list of robusta coffee exporters. Vietnam’s major markets include the US, Japan and Germany. In recent years, the coffee sector has contributed 3 percent of Vietnam’s GDP and generated jobs for more than 2.5 million people.
